Management Standards
- Are you familiar with the following Management standards:
- ISO 9000: Quality management
- QS9000 and ISO/TS 16949: Automotive Quality Management
- ISO 14001: Environmental management
- OHAS 18001: Health & Safety management
- If so, you will be aware that they are all based on the same basic
principles of good management:
- Know where you are (in relation to appropriate benchmarks)
- Know where you want to be (identify your objectives)
- Put a plan of action in place to achieve those objectives (with targets, timescales and milestones along the way)
- Check to see that you are meeting your milestones (modify plans and resources accordingly)
- When you reach your objectives, congratulate everyone and identify future objectives for continual improvement
(Demmings: Plan, Do, Check, Act)
- Are you aware that:
- ISO 9000 and ISO 14001 have been deliberately drafted to reflect one another and facilitate their integration.
- The Health and Safety Commission, in their policy statement HSG65, said they wished companies to manage Health & Safety in the same way that leading companies manage Quality.
- That OHAS 18001 has been drafted to facilitate this and will become the recognised international standard for H&S management, entirely compatible with ISO9000 and 14001.
Keith Brisley Associates have considerable experience and expertise in the application of these basic
good management principles and a track record of delivering substantial business benefits.
